What a wild ride. Thank you Mr Froomkin! I read Press Watch this morning. Then I went to the NYT where Maggie Haberman did the horse race thing and Baker excelled in bothsidisms. Then "ping" this Froomkin piece popped up. It is restorative. We've subscribed to the NYT and been rolling our eyes and sighing in despair for years. This is out biggest most powerful center of journalism and it falls so short. Can anyone explain why that is? Is it the ownership? The board? Do we need an equally large and powerful non-profit newspaper? Are the oligarchs and tyrants just messing with our heads? Why is the NYT like this and where is the competition?
