Vitally import story. But I'm not convinced any GOP moderates in the House would still be willing to stand up to Trump/Musk. On pretty much anything. Especially if Trump mentions them by name on FOX News, and then asks his followers to make "office visits" to show their displeasure. Then Elon whips out his checkbook, and writes a $3million check to his/her MAGA primary opponent. What kind of GOP politician would stand up to that kind of heat? Can you name even one who's still in office?
The only way there's going to be any meaningful defections from Trump's agenda in either swing House districts or Senate seats in purple states, is if Trump pisses off enough of their core constituents to the point where they'll seriously vote Dem in '26. If GOP pols are having to choose between losing to a Dem, or having to fear Trump sending militiamen to threaten their families, there will probably be at least some who will risk the latter.
The good news is that Musk's tampering with SS & Medicare/Medicaid is starting to piss voters off. More specifically, elderly conservative voters. It's looking more and more like a repeat of Bush's plan to privatize SS in '04, which seriously fuc%#d up the GOP by stirring up a hornet's nest of resentment.
Dems also down two safe seats since November with two deaths in office, and depending how quickly special elections are arranged, they could be back to 215 seats. Not sure about the missing GOPer seats, though.
Dan, no-one ever mentions when talking about republicans being afraid of death threats from their own base that they have painted that exact same target on AOC and members of "the Squad" for years and even more importantly that these frightened cowards are the ones who can and will send American out to die in wars and "not wars". These cowards should resign but the truth is that they are onboard with the autocracy because they believe that they will be a part of the power structure, they do not care even a little bit about the people they represent. The "I would do something but I am a coward" schtick is old and not believable but they make sure to "leak" that tidbit so that they can pretend to have a reason for being cowards? Psychic Dissonance on steroids!!
"I’d look at the lowest-scoring Republicans on the Heritage Foundation scorecard, including Reps. John Duarte (California), Mike Kelly (Pennsylvania), Kay Granger (Texas), and Dave Joyce (Ohio)."
I'm afraid that Rep. Kay Granger won't be able to heed your call, as she currently is in a " memory care" unit, afflicted with dementia...and I'll leave it at that.
The media (all media) likes to focus on problems, not solutions. If everything were solved, they'd have nothing to write out or sell ads on. They want us to feel bad, but don't want to show us paths to happiness, because it doesn't make money.
There's more to do than just sending emails or phone calls or social media posts. Sunshine laws are there to give the public a voice and to hold all levels of government accountable (including flipping seats!).
We can speak out! We can let them know we're watching!
NC’s Thom Tillis is the Senator who has been named as the person who tokd reporters that “moderate” Republicans are terrified to defy Trump because of threats to their and their families’ lives. I am very disappointed that you didn’t advocate shaming them for their cowardice.
Octogenarian Nancy Pelosi is still speaking out after the horrific hammer attack on her husband which occurred in her own home. AOC, Ilhan Omar, and other Democratic women, as well as men, haven’t let fear for their lives stop them from speaking out. AOC was literally hunted by insurrectionists on Jan 6 and had to hide in a bathroom while they pounded on the door. Omar has gotten such serious threats that one man who threatened her is now in prison.
We and the mainstream “liberal” should all be making a big deal out of the fact that the “little ladies” of the Democratic Party have far greater courage — and bigger balls — than the pathetic, cowardly men of the “macho” Republican Party.
FYI, Michelle Steel lost her re-election bid in CA-45 to Derek Tran.
You may be referring to Young Kim, who happens to be my congressworman and who keeps touting her "bipartisanship"--even as she votes with Trump more than 93% of the time.
Good article. Kay Granger is no longer in Congress. She has been replaced by Craig Goldman. It was actually a scandal that the press did not notice that she had been absent for nearly a year. Turns out she has dementia and had been in an assisted living facility instead of DC. But no one reported it.
As far as I'm concerned, you are the media and you are not missing this essential story. Thanks!

Oh hell. I should have recognized her name. Fixed. Thanks.

The PEOPLE have to focus on solutions, and that's why I created OperationSunshine.info.

Good post; one correction-- Michelle Steel is no longer in Congress, defeated in the last election.
Thanks. Corrected.
It’s blame the Dems, not the Rs.
It is unfathomable that there are Repubs who do not agree with Trump’s radical Executive Orders and cannot stand by their oath to protect and serve !
Perhaps voting should be secret if Trump is so intimidating!
Musk must be removed from the white house and some of his contracts taken away !
Especially the FAA contract which he will sabotage!
He is compromised unelected and not legal to fire peeople!

The Senate?
