The Times piece on "competing housing programs" was only the latest in how the rag either stupefyingly downplays or "normalizes" tRump's rank idiocies...and also an article on tRump's appearance at the "Moms for Liberty" conference, in which he accused schools of "operating on students" to change their sex passed virtually unmentioned.

Waddya gonna do? Well, I canceled my sub, as thousands have already done, if comments online are any indication of readers' disgust with the corporate Media.

Same here. Canceling my subscription allowed me to send the NYT a message stating my dissatisfaction with their yellow journalistic practices and also that I would find my news elsewhere.

And what is it you love so much about Communism?

The strange thing is that his Opportunity Zone program was not a crazy idea although it seems there were problems with its implementation — favoritism, corruption. Surprise! Surprise!

James Fallows (Breaking the News) makes an excellent point: https://open.substack.com/pub/fallows/p/election-countdown-65-days-to-go?r=5v6g4&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email

The one that really made me furious was number 4 — the screen shot of those two Times front pages, one from October 2016 covered with images and articles about Hillary’s emails and Comey’s outrageous public statement about them; the other is a tiny blip about an article on page A11 regarding Jack Smith reindicting Trump on the Jan 6 insurrection case. It is journalistic malpractice to bury such an important story on the back pages. I know the Times has been playing these games at least since Clinton was in office but it still shocks me.

Excellent piece, Dan. Hope it has some effect. Cheers.

Damn Daniel! Game, set, match.

I'd like to add that city/ town newspapers emulate that on the local level. Local school boards ban books, ban ideas, etc.

Local town/city/county governments need to and must do the same. Especially since this is where the nutjobs get their start.

My favorite phrase to anyone running for office and expounds on a particular stat is: "Prove it " then shut up until they do.

Great suggestions! I would also suggest doing articles on policies enacted by Biden and how they are working and will Harris continue or modify them. Do the same for Trump’s policies such as his Opportunity Zone grants program. I just listened to Chris Hayes’s newest “Why is This Happening” podcast “The Biden Miracle”. It is a very interesting discussion about the now two-year-old Inflation Reduction Act, in particular green energy battery projects. Most of the money for those projects is being spent in red, not blue districts. The amount of investment in new battery manufacturing and technologies is very impressive. I am sure the media would say that would be biased even though it would just be reporting facts about government policies that the public has a right to know about. I urge everyone to take the time to listen to it.

Also what we have is a clearly much more of a deliberate disinformation/gaslighting crisis than an unintentional misinformation problem.

"bizarrely credits Trump with proposing to ease housing demand through the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants"

Because of course most middle class families are looking forward to living in the same conditions as farm worker, meat packers, drywallers, and so on--often 12 to a room.

Here's an idea: Fire all the reporters and commentators and have their work done by artificial intelligence, the way you used AI to illustrate this article instead of paying a real artist.

So....you give out advice you don't follow, then proceed to tell us to dump on Trump. Well, I don't like Trump, but Harris is worse. Tell me: Do you want to bomb Iran, have extended war with Russia, lose our First Amendment, as the Dems want? Or do you want no more wars and keep censorship out of our lives? Those are my foremost issues: censorship and wars. What's yours? I want someone most of all to stop the genocide. You, too?

Wow, politics sure is interesting on your planet! Here on earth, it’s Biden and Harris who are trying to stop the genocide in Gaza while Trump and Vance are in favor of piling up more and more weapons for Israel to use against journalists and aid convoys — a double dip of support for genocide AND censorship. On your planet the poor, oppressed Russians must be suffering terribly from those awful genocidal Ukrainian terrorist attacks…

No, Biden/Harris are Zionists. He's always said so. She says nothing will deviate from his policies. The censorship is set in place already and the Dems are putting it in stone BEFORE the election. What they want is to censor hate speech which is actually free speech. But they are choosy. When Nikki Haley wrote "Finish Them" on a US bomb going to Israel, meaming genocide the Palestinians, no one censored that hate speech, but if I said, "Too bad Hitler didn't finish the job," I'd be censored. Of course, I'd never say that, but it IS free speech, guaranteed by the First Amendment which Tim Walz says we need to change to prevent dis-, mis-, and mal-information. That last one, (mal-) is information that is factually true, but people shouldn't hear it. It's "wrong-think." Shades of Orwell!

BTW, Jill Stein is pro-Palestinian. RFK, Jr. Is pro-Israel BUT will.not send bombs, as will Harris and Trump. But, as I said, Trump doesn't want war and censorship.

Of course Trump wants censorship. He just wants to censor the political left and demands complete freedom to incite violence towards those whose words and actions cross him. That's why he has slammed the mainstream media as horribly liberal and fake news. And it's also why he threatens law enforcement (prosecutors, the FBI, the intelligence community, etc.). Why would he threaten his enemies with revenge, including journalists, the FBI, and democratic politicians, if he fully supported free speech? He supports his personal freedom of speech only. Widen your lens. Don't even get me started on just how dangerous Trump is for our national security and his utter cluelessness when it comes to preventing and ending war.

What you say seems plausible at first, but that last sentence gives you away. Trump “doesn’t want war” simply because he wants to give Putin and Bibi and their fellow tyrants everything they want without war, including the chance to oppress and absorb the Ukrainians and Palestinians. It’s Trump who loves the tyrants who wage war and suppress the truth, and if you were true to the values you say you embrace, you would admit this. Biden, Harris et al are fallible establishment politicians, but Trump represents the return of an old, old evil

Harris also, will Hillary in her ear, plans to bomb Iran and kill another million innocent people. Then continue the war into a hot war with Russia.

Please stay on topic. The issues is the media and Mr. Froomkin said nothing about dumping on Trump, just reporting on important facts.

Quick reminder: it was Obama who negotiated the nuclear settlement with Iran and Trump who withdrew from the agreement and brought the Middle East righ to the brink of war again. Your double standard would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous.
