Pure fascist thuggery, undoubtedly meant to terrorize the public. ICE is more of a threat to public safety than any so-called "illegals."
The press is terrified of the regime. Only a few outlets reported on this travesty. There is no freedom of the press anymore. If we can't depend on them to report factually and courageously, we are lost. It still seems that most Americans still think Trump's tariffs are his only crime. He is hard at work trying to destroy the Democratic party, our right to vote, the country's economy and its foreign relations, not to mention the environment and the efforts that had been made to combat global warming - another grave sin that will cost us millions of acres of pristine forest and that the news media is ignoring.
Not knowing who Rodrick Johnson, the 67 year old man, was when they kicked in his door and dragged him out is a clear example of illegal search. The agents could not have had probable cause, because they did not even know who he was and they had not witnessed him committing a crime when they effectively put him under arrested .
Yet another "Kavanaugh raid", which have proliferated in number and in violence since the Supremes declared that if you're Brown, you're suspect, and above all NOT innocent until you can prove it.
This just isn't a reprise of "stop-and-frisk" tactics, but a massive escalation of civil rights deprivation and unwarranted, purposeful BRUTALITY.
Wonder if Justice "I love beer!" is taking in all the videos showing the consequences of his "concurring" opinion in *Vasquez Perdomo v Noem*.
The U.S. attorney's office for that area answers to Trump, but the Cook County State's Attorney ought to look into whether any state laws were broken. If they were, they need to seek indictments.
Our government is a terrorist organization. A bunch of losers who have lied cheated and bullied their way into power because they know they will be on the streets if they don’t. Insecure losers.
Every lawyer in the country should be signing up to pursue the cases these people need to bring. Federal law protects these assholes, and it's time for the courts to realize the terror that is being pursued under the cover of law. Raids such as this, without warrants, violate our Constitution. Either the courts enforce our rights, or we no longer need any lawyers!
I hope those lawyers start changing the language used to describe these ICE actions. "Raid" conjures images of brave officers charging into a secret hideout to apprehend persons engaged in an ongoing illegal activity. What ICE did in Chicago was an ATTACK. It was an attack on families in their homes, an attack on children sleeping in their beds, and an attack on all human rights and decency. ICE needs to be stopped.
The show is designed to make people afraid. It should not. The time to be afraid was long ago, when there was a chance to keep the United States from going down this dark path.
I’m sure they are angry, but they’re also terrified and they’ve probably all always been afraid, considering the racism directed to them over the years. These people are poor working class, and they’re black and brown. I’d be afraid too. They have no legal recourse because theycan’t afford to fight back.
Katherine, while everyone who faces hostile, out-of-control law enforcement has some level of fear, those who understand that the consequences of not standing up are worse than the consequences of standing up have some reassurance. That's why the poor, who have so little, have always been braver than the comfortable in self-defense. It is shocking and yet inspiring that the best Americans are often "the least among us."
Some Anglos in Congress have stood up for immigrant rights. Brad Lander and Chris van Hollen are shining examples of people who put their bodies on the line. But those who have faced arrest and threats of arrest have been, I believe, exclusively African American. And *at least half* of those congressmen challenging ICE are non-Anglo (www.cnn.com/2025/07/30/politics/democrats-sue-ice-detention-center-access). Granted, age enters into how much risk people are willing to take on. But still.
I agree with you in part, but the families in that building must have felt powerless, when confronted by big men in uniforms, wearing masks and no ID, carrying big guns, busting down doors in the middle of the night and scaring the hell out of them and their little children as they were dragged out into the street and all zip-tied for no reason. I hope that the ACLU will come to their aid and file a class-action suit if that’s what’s called for, against ICE and the Trump administration. In the meantime, their apartments have been ransacked, their children have been especially traumatized, they could possibly lose their jobs or be penalized for taking time off to right the injustices perpetrated by ICE.
The ACLU has been representing immigrants since this nightmare began. If you wish to know what actions they are taking, visit their website (and make a donation). Don't just "hope." Hope doesn't do a goddamn thing to help anyone.
I think you misread my comment.I’m not just hoping. I understand what the ACLU’s mission is and I’m sure they’re defending the rights of these immigrants and others. But I also know how long it takes to get any results through the courts.
Only tolerated by our FOX-News-watching GOP friends because the building raided was occupied by brown- and black-skinned working class residents. If they'd raided a building in a white neighborhood, there would've been a hue and cry.
There should be lawyers from non profits like the ACLU willing to represent them for free. I would like to know which ones, if any, are representing these victims so I can donate. That is one simple thing all of us can do. The courts are our best bet even if our Supreme Court is dominated by “Christian” fascist oligarchy-loving justices.

Did anyone call 911? If so, what did the first responders do?

When the history of our time is written, this disgraceful action may well appear in Chapter 1.

I just wrote my two senators to complain about this. This is outrageous!

This is law enforcement theater.

It should instead make them angry.

I don't know how great wealth enters into risk-taking, but Dan Goldman is the only really rich congressman (www.spokesman.com/further-review/congressional-millionaires/) I know who has challenged ICE.

Makes me wonder how many white European Christians he's deported.
Residents need to hire the best lawyers they can find and sue Noem and her stormtroopers into the Stone Age.
